I am fascinated by inter- and transdisciplinary research at the cutting edge of biology and particularly ecology, mathematics, engineering and economy with a passion for sustainability.
Specializing in ecological modelling and global change research, my PhD focused on understanding how bird migration is influenced by the environment and the individual’s state, and on how migratory movements affect the population dynamics of birds, their life histories and local biodiversity in turn. In this context, I studied potential impacts of anthropogenic global change on migratory birds breeding in Central-European agricultural landscapes, existing carry-over effects and the evolutionary trade-offs in their decision-making. To this end, I combined ecological modelling, mathematical optimization techniques and animal movement analysis.
